Consciously Choose To Be Optimistic Rather Than Pessimistic

You can achieve being happier faster and easier by changing the way you think.

For this achievement, you’ll learn how to change your thinking so that you:

  • Stop valuing pessimism and choosing to think in pessimistic ways
  • Start valuing optimism and choosing to think in optimistic ways

To do this, learn why the first way of thinking doesn’t help you or make sense, while the second one does, and then make choices based on what you’ve learned.

Stop valuing pessimism and choosing to think in pessimistic ways

Here’s why there’s no value in this type of negative thinking:

  • When you see positive value in pessimism, your mind automatically thinks in destructive, pessimistic ways, like some of the ways that you have seen in this level:
    • Focusing on things with no value (or negative value) to you
    • Believing that you can’t achieve and experience things of positive value
    • Focusing on negative possibilities in your future, and believing that it is important and helpful to do this
    • Believing that you can’t accept or handle negatively-valued possibilities occurring, and that you can’t gain from these instances in any way
  • Individually, each of these types of thinking has a harmful impact on you. But when combined, they reinforce one another, and the impact is magnified. This can easily take a harmful, physical toll on your body, where your body is perpetually stressed, fatigued, and you feel miserable in general. These modes of thinking will also interfere with the quality of your sleep, making you feel even worse.
  • So when you value pessimism and choose to be pessimistic, your life naturally becomes less meaningful, worthwhile, and enjoyable. And depending on how pessimistic you are, it can become a living nightmare. This is why the link between pessimism and depression is so strong. The more pessimistic you are, the greater your chances are of struggling with unhappiness and depression. It’s very predictable.

Start valuing optimism and choosing to think in optimistic ways

Here’s why there’s great value in this type of positive thinking:

  • When you see positive value in optimism, your mind automatically thinks in constructive, optimistic ways, like some of the ways that you have seen in this level:
    • Focusing on things that are of greater positive value to you
    • Believing that you can achieve and experience things of positive value
    • Focusing on positive possibilities in your future, and believing that it is important and helpful to do this
    • Believing that you can accept and handle negatively-valued possibilities occurring, and that you can even learn and benefit from these instances in some way
  • Individually, each of these types of thinking has a beneficial impact on you. But when combined, they reinforce one another, and the impact is magnified. This can benefit you physically, since your body is more relaxed, more energized, and you have greater clarity of mind. These modes of thinking will also improve the quality of your sleep, making you feel even better in general.
  • So when you value optimism and choose to be optimistic, your life naturally becomes more meaningful, worthwhile, and enjoyable. And depending on how optimistic you are, life can become an absolute joy. This is why the link between optimism and happiness is so strong. The more optimistic you are, the smaller your chances are of struggling with unhappiness and depression. It’s very predictable.

Enjoy a beneficial change that makes sense

  • Some people are pessimistic without understanding how pessimism negatively affects their lives. And some people are pessimistic and don’t know how to change their thinking and become optimistic instead.
  • But this is not your situation. In this level, you have learned how pessimism affects you, and you have also learned how to make choices that will rewire your brain and allow you to naturally and automatically think optimistically rather than pessimistically. So you have empowered yourself in a way that few people ever will.
  • When you consider how destructive pessimism is, and how you are fully capable of thinking in beneficial, optimistic ways, it makes complete sense to see positive value in optimism and to choose to think in optimistic ways.
